Tis the Season - Greetings From Yamamoto Central

I braved the distance (314 miles round-trip), the weather (rained all the way there and back) and the hordes of last-minute holiday shoppers to get those last remaining Christmas presents this weekend. Yamamoto Central is located in tiny Page, AZ and the one-stop shopping here has a lot to be desired, so a trip to southern Utah was necessary. I had to get Pa that new Kobalt multi-ratchety thingy and they only sell it a Lowe’s and we don’t have a Lowe’s. The things we do for the people we love, right?

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a shopper. I do not browse. I do not look at things that are not on the list. I do not . . . linger. My aunt refuses to take me yard sale trolling and I can’t say as I blame her. My shoulders get tight, my forehead creases in a scowl and I become downright grumpy when it comes to masses of people mindlessly milling about in stores. But I have to say I had a surprisingly wonderful day. It was crowded, yes, but I found everything I was looking for and all the sales clerks were cheerful. The traffic was bumper to bumper and yet everyone patiently waited for the light to turn green and I was even graciously, almost cheerfully waved into the flow of traffic time and time again. What was wrong with these people? Could it be Christmas spirit?

Who knows? I’m not knocking it, though – I’m one step away from starring in a modern-day Christmas Carole as it is, so I’m not questioning it.

Inevitably, as this time of year rolls around, I start looking back and trying to access whether or not I feel I’ve been successful. Have I grown? Have I become better? Have I made a difference? I’m happy to report when it comes to the Inside Line here at GYCB, we have grown —by nearly 1,000% as far as hits on the site! Have we become better? I know we’ve added several new writers this year and we’re always looking to expand our coverage. Have we made a difference? As long as we’re adding to someone’s enjoyment and love of fishing, I can proudly say that we have. And with your input, I know we’ll continue to do so!

The weekly e-zine newsletter went away for a bit this summer, but it’s making its way back to your inbox and we hope you’ll find it a useful tool in expanding your knowledge of fishing as well as what we’re up to at Yamamoto Central. While it’s an electronically-generated mass email, I hope you’ll feel confident in replying to us here at the Inside Line ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for a personal one-on-one chat to let us know how we’re doing.

I have to share that I did get some feedback from a subscriber who asked if he could be taken off the list because he was so disillusioned with bass fishing as a sport. He said he felt it was a scam and he no longer wanted to be a part of any of it. This was disheartening to say the least but I hope he is able to one day pick up a pole again and appreciate the outdoors for what it is.

Things are constantly changing in the world of tour level fishing. I’m sure these organizations are also looking at this past year and wondering what they can to be more successful, become better, to make a difference in the sport of fishing.

Stay warm, fishing buddies. From all of us here at Yamamoto Central we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy and a healthy New Year!
